What changed on 9 October 2026: this document now covers Serp Diary as well as Snake Measurer; the image storage provider is named correctly (Backblaze B2, EU — it was previously written as Cloudflare R2); the free plan figures are corrected to 3 animals and 30 measurements; and the clause permitting us to remove records above the free limit after a subscription ends has been removed, because we do not do that and have said publicly that we will not.
1. Introduction
Welcome to SerpWidgets ("we," "our," or "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our applications.
This policy covers both of our products: Snake Measurer (snakemeasurer.com) and Serp Diary (serpdiary.com). They share one account, one server and one database — signing in to either reaches the same records — so one policy describes both.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials via Firebase Authentication.
- Accounts Without a Name: Serp Diary can be used without creating a named account. We still store the records you make, under an account identifier generated for you, and we hold no email address or name for it. The only thing linking that account to you is a token kept in your browser: we cannot restore access to it, so if you clear your site data or move to another device the records remain on our servers but become unreachable. Signing in later attaches your name to the same account rather than starting a new one.
- Telegram: If you link Telegram, we store your Telegram user identifier in order to recognise you and to process payments made through it.
- Usage Data: We collect anonymous analytics data about how you use the app, including features used and measurement counts.
- Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system, and browser information for compatibility purposes.
- Images & Photos: When you are signed in, your measurement photos, animal gallery photos and photos attached to diary entries are uploaded to our cloud storage (Backblaze B2, EU) to enable cross-device synchronization. Photos are stored securely and associated with your account. Without an account, Snake Measurer keeps photos on your device only.
- Diary Records: Entries you write in Serp Diary — feedings and their outcome, sheds, weights, vet visits, notes — together with schedules, state spans, enclosures and the species you choose, are stored on our servers.
- Measurement Data: Your measurement history, including reference points, snake points, and calculated lengths, is stored locally and synced to our servers when you are signed in.
- Animal Profiles: Names, species, and photos of your animals are stored on our servers when synced.
- Subscription Data: Purchase and subscription information is processed by RevenueCat and the respective app store (Google Play, Apple App Store, or Stripe for web). We store your subscription status (free or premium) on our servers.
2a. Information Other People Can See
Serp Diary lets you share an animal, and sharing means someone else sees part of your data:
- Email addresses between keepers: When you invite someone to help with an animal, they see the email address of its owner, and the owner sees the email addresses of everyone who has access. This is how you can tell who you are sharing with.
- Entries carry their author: Anything a helper writes keeps their name on it, and anything you write on someone else's animal keeps yours.
- Handing an animal over: When you hand an animal to another keeper, a copy of that animal's records — entries, photographs and measurements — is created in their account, and you keep your own copy as an archive. Your email address is not disclosed to them.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information to:
- Provide and maintain our service
- Authenticate your account
- Synchronize your data across devices
- Process and manage subscriptions
- Provide AI-powered snake detection (premium feature, server-side processing)
- Improve our application based on usage patterns
- Provide customer support
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:
- Authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication (Google)
- Measurement data and animal profiles are stored in PostgreSQL on our servers
- Images are stored in Backblaze B2, EU region (encrypted at rest)
- All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
- Server access is protected by Firebase JWT authentication
- Rate limiting protects against abuse

6. Cookies and Tracking
We use essential cookies for authentication and app functionality. We also use analytics cookies (with your consent) to understand app usage and improve our service. You can manage your cookie preferences in the app settings.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data (including images from our servers)
- Export your measurement history
- Opt-out of analytics tracking
- Request data portability
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active:
- Free accounts: Up to 30 measurement records and 3 animal profiles are stored on our servers.
- Premium accounts: Unlimited records are stored for the duration of your subscription.
- Account deletion: To delete your account and everything in it, use Delete account in settings, or write to support@snakemeasurer.com from the address on the account. All data — including images, measurements, diary entries and animal profiles — is permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days.
- Subscription expiration: If your premium subscription expires, everything you have already recorded stays where it is. We do not delete your records to fit a smaller plan, and reading, editing, deleting and exporting your own data remains free on any plan; only adding beyond the free limits asks for premium again.
9. Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
